Magic Play Dough

In Room 1 and 2 for our Writing Experience we made some Play Dough. So we put food colouring and turned our Play Dough into blue, red and green. We then made a Magic Play Dough poem. This is my poem.

Magic play-dough
Magic play-dough is really true,
 I'll give you a clue.

 Give it a squeeze,
 and get on your knees.

 You make a wish,
 Like a chocolate fish.

Say pretty please,
Don’t worry there won’t be any bees.

 Magic play-dough will change,
So think of it … it is strange.

It will be true if we pray please come true,
Did it come true don’t be blue.

How would you feel,
 Like you’ve just made deal.

Writing Prove it 27

L.I:Can I add interest to my writing by using similes and metaphors?

I was in the bush and I saw a Aloe Vera plant lying on the ground like a dead bird. I picked it up and pulled some of just in case a bug bit me and I needed to wipe some on my skin. But suddenly I saw a horse as pretty as a kings crown. I decided to ride it home and found out it was a girl, then ... I saw  SHE WAS PREGNANT.  I can't wait to see the new foal.

Acrostic Poem

Animates guinea pigs were so very cuddly.
Nothing really was there that I wanted to buy.
I was really excited at the door.
My nana went to Animates.
At the counter nana got some treats for my dog. The fish was AWESOME and cute.
Elsa from frozen was a fish feature in a fish tank.
Six people there got ten medium sized dog treats.

Cooking at Rutherford

Over the past 3 weeks I have been doing cooking at Rutherford School to learn how to cook mashed potatoes, potato bake and gnocchi. It was fun doing it and my favourite potato recipe is the potato bake.  The buddy I had for the last session for cooking was a bit bossy. But he was still fun to cook with and I liked it. We had Mrs Palmer as our adult and leader but she wasn't the only adult because we had two others. Cos and Aaron. The first session I thought that it was just our class doing this technology but room 15 and 14 were also doing it but on different days.  How I found out was because Mrs Palmer told us not to use many potatoes as we had to save some for room 15 to use the next day. One of the hardest parts I found was rolling the gnocchi in the flour and cutting it to keep it in its shape and not too flat. My favourite part of cooking was eating all of the yummy potato dishes that I  made for myself. But my buddies did more of the work. It was nice for me to not have to do most of it.   The two buddies I had at different times were James and Dante. James was the bossy one and did lots of the work, but I did not really care. The easiest potatoes to cook were the mashed potatoes. I want to try and make them at home.

How to boil and mash potatoes

Ingredients Equipment
2 - 4 Potatoes Potato peeler
1 tsp Salt Pot and lid
Water Stove
15g Butter Knife
Little Milk Chopping board
Potato masher

  1. Peel the potatoes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into quarters (or smaller if the potato is large)
  3. Put the potatoes into the pot.
  4. Cover the potatoes with water and add the salt
  5. Place the lid on the pot.
  6. Turn the element on to high.
  7. Wait for it to come to the boil and then turn it down to simmer.
  8. Cook for about 15 minutes or when they are soft when you poke a knife into them.
  9. Drain water out of the pot.
  10. If you want to serve them boiled then place the potatoes on a plate.
  11. If you want to eat them mashed then add the butter and milk then mash with a potato masher until there are no lumps and it looks smooth.

Potato Bake

Ingredients Equipment
1 potato per person Potato peeler
1 tsp Salt Pot and lid
Water Stove/oven
¼ of an onion Knife
1  T of oil Chopping board
Cream to ¾ fill dish
Grated cheese to cover

  1. Turn the oven on to bake at 200 degrees.
  2. Peel the potatoes.
  3. Slice the potatoes into 5mm slices.
  4. Put the potatoes into the pot.
  5. Cover the potatoes with water and add the salt.
  6. Place the lid on the pot.
  7. Put the pot on the element and turn it on to high.
  8. Wait for it to come to the boil and then turn it down to simmer.
  9. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes or when they are just soft enough when you poke a knife into them.
  10. While the potatoes are cooking, peel and dice the onion.
  11. Heat the oil in the pan on a medium heat and fry the onion.  (Don’t let it turn brown.
  12. When the potatoes are cooked drain the water out of the pot.
  13. Now put a layer of cooked sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish.
  14. Sprinkle the onion on next.
  15. Add another layer of potatoes.
  16. Pour over cream so it fills up ½ to ¾ of the dish.
  17. Sprinkle over the grated cheese.
  18. Put it in the oven on the middle rack and cook for approximately 20 minutes or until the potatoes are soft when poked with a knife.
  19. Finally they are ready to eat and enjoy!
